Modern Home Solar System Breakthroughs

Many homeowners would save a lot of cash every year by using a solar power system to reduce or eliminate their electricity bill. With a properly sized solar panel array, all of their power can be easily generated from sunlight and they will never again have to worry about another electric bill. Even though these systems are fairly easy to install, there are a few problems that homeowners can encounter that may prevent them from seeing the maximum return on their investments. Some of these issues have been overcome in recent years with improvements to the solar power technology and these innovations make these systems the perfect answer for most homeowners.  These innovations apply with both a purchased solar panel and a DIY solar panel.

Their home’s orientation to the sun is probably the largest concern for most homeowners. For solar power systems to operate at peak efficiencies, a home has to have a roof that faced south if they were located in the northern hemisphere. As the sun travels across the sky, a southern exposure ensures that the solar panels get a good amount of sun through the day. This was a critical concern in years past as older solar panels were very specific in their need to have a constant sun exposure for most of the day to generate power. If their positioning was even a little bit off, it could have a major impact on the amount of power they could generate

This problem is solved in modern solar panels by using more efficient solar cells. These newer solar cells are not only able to generate larger amounts of power from the same sunlight as older cells, but they can also tolerate the sun hitting them at a more severe angle as well. Many locations that were not good choices for solar power before can now be used because of this wider tolerance. This makes them a perfect fit for installations that have a lees than perfect alignment for maximum solar power generation. These modern solar panels will produce more electricity when there is dimished sunlight, like on cloudy days, and also in these situations that are out of standard alignment with the sun.  These newer panels don’t have to be rotated during the data to point directly at the sun.  This makes it much easier to do a home build solar panel installation.

This is much better than older solar panels that needed a large, continuous amount of sunlight to generate electricity. Because of this limitation they were inactive in the early morning and late afternoon hours when the sun was rising and setting. Even though there was sunlight, they could not produce power because the sunlight was not of a sufficient level to get them started. The newer solar panels can take advantage of these lower levels of sunlight and will produce power proportional to the level of sunlight available. This means they will produce their maximum output during the day when the sun is brightest and will still produce power in lesser amounts when less sunlight is present. Having this ability to generate a variable amount of power from even weak sunlight allows these newer solar panels to produce more power each day and adds to their total power output for the year. This additional power can have a big impact on savings and can make all the difference to homeowners that are trying to justify a solar power system for their home.

One of the best ways to increase the resale value of your home is with a solar power system.  A solar power system is sure to increase the value of your home whether it provides all of the power needs for your house or only provides a supplement to power provided by the electric company.  A simple diy solar charger is a great way to start.
